I recently upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 10 through the free upgrade. This resulted in my Kaspersky Internet Security antivirus becoming inactive and only Windows Defender was working. I tried several solutions including downloading the latest patch from Kaspersky. The simplest solution I found was uninstalling the antivirus and installing again. My antivirus is now working properly. Hope this helps.
